Tullytown Borough Council recognized the police officers who responded to an hours-long standoff with two men at a gun store last winter.

The council and Mayor Dave Cutchineal presented the Tullytown officers who responded to the call at Mike’s Guns and Sporting Goods on Levittown Parkway in February with citations for their efforts. Local firefighters who assisted will be mailed citations in the coming days.

Sgt. Phillip Kulan and Officer Andrew Houser’s quick response to a burglary alarm at the gun shop at 1:41 a.m. helped keep the two burglars contained. Officers from several surrounding towns followed and helped set up a perimeter. Throughout the cold morning, additional Tullytown officers were summoned to the scene.

Later, SWAT operators surrounded the building for hours before making entry around 7:30 a.m. The first suspect was captured around 8:30 a.m. and the second around 10 a.m.

Townes and Williams were recently sentenced to prison for the burglary and standoff.

While Chief of Police Daniel Doyle said the incident was “out of the ordinary for us,” he commended his officers for their handling of the situation.

During the meeting, an email from a resident thanking the borough officers for their response to a quad accident that happened recently was read. The victim was not seriously injured.
